Pug dogs are, in the opinion of many of their loyal owners, one of the cutest dog breeds there are. Pugs, however, come with their share of pug health problems and it is up to their responsible owners to look out for them and take care of them as best they can. Here are some tips for keeping your pug happy and healthy.

First, one common cause of dog health problems is poor oral care. Dogs with healthy teeth have an easier time digesting meals, and rotting teeth can lead to a host of problems including serious infections. To care for your pug teeth, make sure that the treats you give them are made of a hard, mildly abrasive ingredient that will help fight plaque. It is also possible to brush the teeth of your pug quickly every morning with a toothbrush.

Second, keep your pug in shape and trim. Pugs are not supposed to be fat, they are small, muscular creatures that should have an inverted hourglass shape figure when viewed from the top. Make sure your pug is getting daily exercise and eating right in order to avoid pug health problems.

Third, because pugs have shorter airways, common pug health problems include breathing difficulties. If you are a smoker or live with one, make sure you smoke away from your pug, and never near it, so as not to exacerbate this issue. Similarly, keep other common lung irritants away from your pug.

Keep your pug happy and healthy, and it should live a long and loving life.
